SWIMRUN.NO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2016 – To the World’s End

TRUE AND UNIQUE SWIMRUN from Ringshaug beach to the World´s End

swimrun.no proudly presents swimrun.no  – To the World’s End. After a fantastic race in August 2015 we will be racing for the third time at 20th August 2016.

Through the day, you will experience more than 20 islands in Oslofjorden, the most beautiful archipelago in Norway. The race starts at Ringhaugstranda and ends at the World’s End, the southernmost tip of the island of Tjoeme. Several of the islands are part of the national park Faerder Nasjonalpark. Every time you get to a new island, you run over it and swim to the next island. The longest swim stage is 1,100 m and the longest run stage is 8 km. In total you will cover over 50 km of running and 8,000 m of swimming.

swimrun.no is a unique race in the most stunning skerries. You compete in teams of two persons, and the first team to reach World’s End wins. We have women’s, men’s and mixed teams. You only need a partner, a wetsuit and a pair of running shoes to compete.

swimrun.no is one of the toughest one-day events in Norway. You will need endurance, swim and run skills and the ability to navigate on and between the islands. The run courses are marked, and the swim stages will be marked by flags and banners.

The race offers great nature experiences and a fierce battle against the elements. You can’t stop, you have to keep on fighting. There are three cut-off times and five aid stations with food and fluids. We are very serious about the safety and therefore, every competitor will race with a GPS tracker.  Furthermore, we will have plenty of safety boats and volunteers along the course.

The course:
The race starts at Ringhaugstrand outside of Tønsberg. After the first run stage, you run and swim south towards the Bolærne archipelago. After the Bolærne archipelago, the course will take you west towards Gåsøy, Hvaløy and Bjerkøy. After Bjerkøy, you will reach Nøtterøy, and then it is time for a longer run stage to Vrengensundet. When you have crossed Vrengensundet, the longest run stage of the race is waiting. You run south via a beautiful coastal path towards Engø Gård. Afterwards, it is time for a short swim to the island of Hvasser. From Hvasser, you move south towards the beautiful Vasskalven to complete a run stage before you move back to cross Hvasser. The last stage passes the race hotel, Havna Hotell, before moving south towards World’s End.

The race is tough. Rocks, forest paths and open water with waves and currents make the course very challenging. In return, it is extremely beautiful. We reckon a finishing time around 7 hours for the fastest teams in 2016.

swimrun.no welcomes 100 teams at the starting line 20th. August at 0500hrs
